Thiago Ultra’s Fruit Mandala Coloring Book for Adults will delight all those who have discovered and love the current trend for adult coloring as a means to relax, unwind, de-stress and refocus. This sixty-four-page book contains thirty detailed and enticing illustrations drawn in traditional mandala style. Each depicts aspects and patterns seen in different fruits, and has an identifiable center point from which emanates an array of further patterns and shapes. The author has placed each mandala only on one side of each page, leaving the reverse of the page blank.
Having recently discovered the calming and enjoyable pastime of drawing and coloring mandalas, I found Thiago Ultra’s book very appealing. Psychologists tell us that designing or filling in these soothing patterns helps us explore or rediscover our creative side, find an inner calmness, and for many people they can be part of a personal therapy or a spiritual experience. This book can also encourage us to notice and observe patterns and aspects of the drawn fruits that we might not otherwise see – so this has a mindful effect too.
I like the range of complexity in these mandalas – some are less complicated for times when you may prefer a simpler drawing, while others contain great detail for a slower, more ponderous coloring session. My personal favorite is possibly the gentle, soothing, and swirling patterns in the mandala on page 54, but I was also drawn to the intricate and detailed patterns in the more complicated petal-like arrangement of the mandala on page 29. All are beautifully drawn and presented.
Fruit Mandala Coloring Book for Adults will inspire all lovers of coloring looking for their next therapeutic book. It would also be the perfect introduction for anyone wanting to try this relaxing and psychologically beneficial form of art for the first time. Delightful and recommended.
