Fourth Earth, book four in the Arch-Mage series by Cami Murdock Jensen, continues Agnes’s struggle to fulfill the tasks of prophecy set forth by the Seer, Delphinium Trendicles. Needing to unify the tribes of Fourth Earth, consisting of centaurs, elves, sirens, pixies, kelpies, and others proves to be a much more complicated task than Agnes had originally thought. Add on the facts that her boyfriend is losing his control over his magic, Fourth Earth losing its magic entirely, the slow fading to nothingness her genie friend, Kinza, is facing, and, clearly, Agnes has more than enough on her plate as the Arch-Mage destined to save the universe. Will she be able to complete the third of the four tasks needed to save everyone from the evil omnipotent Sharir before all is lost?
Cami Murdock Jensen’s Fourth Earth is one of those rare books that make me regret not following the series from the start. Fourth Earth is wonderfully paced, continually progressing the story and action with zero downtime, and without making the story feel rushed or forced. Agnes is an authentic character that mirrors human insecurities as she overcomes the challenges in her path. I simply adored her and how she unintentionally pushes the characters around her to be their best. Masterful writing on Jensen’s part paints vivid and beautiful landscapes for my imagination to follow. I thoroughly enjoyed the creative use of magic, science and multi-planet movement throughout the story. Fourth Earth is a fantasy epic that I highly recommend to all fans of fantasy fiction, adventure and magical action.
