Since childhood I’ve been an artist and worked as a graphic designer in the corporate world and for newspapers for twenty-three years before I quit to write full time. But I’d already begun writing novels at 21, over forty-four years ago now, and have had twenty-three (ten romantic horror, two horror novels, two romantic SF horror, one romantic suspense, one romantic time travel, one historical romance, two thrillers, and four murder mysteries) previous novels, two novellas and twelve short stories published from Zebra Books, Leisure Books, Avalon Books, The Wild Rose Press, Damnation Books/Eternal Press; and I’ve self-published my last ten novels with Amazon Kindle Direct and my Dinosaur Lake novels and Spookie Town Mysteries (Scraps of Paper, All Things Slip Away and Ghosts Beneath Us) are my best-sellers.
I’ve been married to Russell for thirty-seven years; have a son and two grandchildren and I live in a small quaint town in Illinois, which is right across the JB Bridge from St. Louis, Mo. We have a quirky cat, Sasha, and the three of us live happily in an old house in the heart of town. Though I’ve been an artist, and a folk/classic rock singer in my youth with my brother Jim, writing has always been my greatest passion, my butterfly stage, and I’ll probably write stories until the day I die…or until my memory goes.

Kathryn Meyer Griffith’s Four Spooky Short Stories is surreal and its haunting theme will keep readers turning the pages. The collection opens with Ghost Brother; the tragedy of a man named Bobby, who’s manipulated by the ghost of his dead brother, Gerald. I sympathize with Tessa, Bobby’s devoted wife, who certainly deserves better. One lesson is clear here – bad things happen when you listen to the wrong people (in this case, an evil ghost). Running with the Train centers on Sarah, who has always been obsessed with wolves since she was a child. Wolves mate for life and this romantic notion appeals to lonely Sarah, who’s been searching for “faithful and everlastingly loyal” true love. This would attract supernatural fans who also love a good bit of romance in a story.
My favorite is The Banshee and the Witch. Cleona O’Grady is a white witch who sometimes uses her magic for her personal desires. Precious, her charming and witty cat companion/familiar, acts as a wise guide to curb Cleona’s selfish acts. However, Cleona's time is almost over, and a banshee named Bronagh has come for Cleona’s life. I truly enjoyed this story and I find its premise and plot ingenious. Too Close to the Edge ends the collection; Penelope witnesses a young girl fall over the edge of the Grand Canyon, but no one seems to believe her. Eventually, she discovers an eerie explanation to it.
Overall, Four Spooky Short Stories is definitely a riveting combination of paranormal and supernatural stories. Griffith’s prose is engrossing and hits all the good spots. This is her first work that I’ve read, and I want to read much more.
