Forever by Natalie J. Case takes us into the long eternal life of Amara. When man's history was born, so was Amara and everything that would come for all eternity was laid before her. Amara is not a human, but she is not a vampire; yet she is also both of these things. Amara is many things - child, lover, killer, and monster. A walking contradiction, Amara wishes to find both redemption and vengeance. Along the way, Amara finds love of every kind; from happiness to the deep agony that happens within love. Her life is one never ending circle and there are two who circle with her as they return to her.

This is a unique take on vampires and I found the book very readable and interesting. It has a steady pace that can be slow in certain places, but it is not boring in the least. This world is full of rich detail from the places to the people. Amara is a deeply complex character whom you often pity. Since she is neither fully human nor fully vampire, she is not accepted by either side and is often in danger. As a reader I could simply not fathom living life where I was not accepted anywhere and it really made me feel a connection to Amara. The writing of this book flows and is really enjoyable. This may be a modern take on vampire stories, but the vampires do not sparkle, and it is a book that seems to have a life of its own. I enjoyed every moment of this book and look forward to reading more by Natalie J. Case.
