On the surface, Forever Grace is about Sean and Grace and whether or not their different lifestyles can mesh to create something great. But Linda Poitevin has created a story with layers and depth. Sean is an injured cop who retreated to his cabin in order to heal from his injury. Instead of the quiet and solitude he expects, he is greeted by the sound of laughter, children’s laughter to be exact. Despite the fact that Sean doesn’t ever want or plan to have a family, something about Grace and the kids in her care slowly starts to chip away at his resolve.
One of the best things about Forever Grace is Grace herself. Although Sean is a typical detective, always digging around to make the pieces fit and form a whole picture, Grace is not some damsel in distress. She has secrets but she is very capable of caring for herself and her nieces and nephew. I liked that she was strong without being in your face about it, which gave the character a quiet grace that made her immensely likable.
Linda Poitevin has created an engaging romantic mystery that fulfills both parts expertly. The romance between Grace and Sean was great, even if it was a little quick; they are both strong, independent people who found it hard to learn to trust someone else. Then there was the mystery of why Grace was at the cabin with the kids. Of course, nosy detective Sean couldn’t let it go. I really enjoyed how quickly Sean was accepted by the kids despite all they’d been through. It was a good idea of Linda Poitevin to add the children to the story; they infused it with the humor and cuteness that it needed.
