Fly Free is a work of fiction in the faerie fantasy, action, and adventure sub-genres, and was written by author Allison Rose. Protagonists Sevelle and Jae have been raised as sisters in the Court of the Day, with Sevelle primed to rule someday and the dutiful Jae as her guardian. So when rumors begin that evil lurks within the very walls of their own court, life takes the girls on different paths that may bring them together again, or threaten to shatter everything they’ve ever known.

Author Allison Rose has crafted a masterful story that will have fantasy fans hungry for more after this fantastic series debut. One of the things which particularly impressed me about the work was the commitment to worldbuilding around the Court, the rebels, and evildoers sneaking in from every angle. This intricate system brings much tension and surprise to the novel as we learn more about it, and the characters are well developed to fit into the world, but also grow with the power to change it for the better. I really enjoyed Lex and the rebels, who stole the scene every time they had a chance, and I found the dialogue really dynamic and emotive between the different characters, as well as efficiently moving the plot forward. Overall, I would highly recommend Fly Free to anyone seeking plenty of action and adventure in their faerie/magical fantasy works.

The land of Faerie is divided into two. There's the Day Territory where the Day Court is, and of course, its counterpart, the Night Territory where the Night Court is. Fly Free's story, the first installment of the Light of Faerie series, is focused on Sevelle, the heir to the Day Court's Throne, more commonly referred to as The Light of Day. In the middle of a rebellion, Sevelle is having difficulty finding her power. This is alarming both for the royals (her parents) and the rest of the courtiers because, at her age, she's supposed to know how to wield it. As more days pass where she remains powerless, more faeries get affected by the blight. And as if things couldn't get any worse, she discovers her guard and closest friend, Jae, is conniving with the rebels and gets her into more trouble than she already is in. While Sevelle's mother, The Glorious, is keen on violently purging the rebels, Sevelle believes they can achieve a peaceful agreement. The Glorious sends Sevelle away to the rebels to prove herself and find her power. Will Sevelle succeed or is there more to the rebels and her friends than they let on?

Allison Rose's Fly Free is a wonderful escape in these trying times. Although it starts right in the middle of a problem and does not backtrack to give the story a more solid foundation, the tone and flow somehow work for the rest of the book. The slow pacing continuously lures the audience to keep turning the pages. The characters are written well and Sevelle's internal struggles are very relatable. This suspenseful fantasy-adventure does not disappoint with the intricacy of details. From the description of the court, down to the skin and wings of the faeries, the imagery bursts with vibrancy. Allison Rose's Fly Free is highly recommended to those readers who love stories brimming with bravery and magic.
