Fatal Infraction: A Mike Stoneman Thriller is a fresh and modern up-to-date mystery. Mike and Jason are the detectives assigned to find out who killed football quarterback Jimmy Rydell. When the very outspoken football player’s dead body is found frozen on the Central Park Carousel, there are many likely suspects and reasons why. Mike and Jason are forced to look into the possibility of it being mob-related, an advantage for the team finances, or perhaps racism or retaliation is the reason. The investigation goes around in circles and each answer presents another question. I found myself changing my mind, thinking 'oh, it must be the bodyguard, no maybe the jealous football player, or surely there was some behind the scene scoring betting and it must be the mob guy.' You must read it yourself to find the killer.
Fatal Infraction is a true-crime story clearly offering the reader all that homicide detectives Mike and Jason did to solve the crime. They were both very different from each other and each was very likable and believable. The story takes us in many directions with twists and turns. A picture was painted of the dead Jimmy Rydell that led to an understanding of who he was and what happened to him. This is not the first Mike Stoneman Thriller but it does stand alone with a few clearly defined references to the other stories. I really enjoyed the writing style of Kevin G. Chapman and the big and small details he included, making Fatal Infraction a really good story. If you enjoy the crime, mystery, and suspense genres, Fatal Infraction is a book that you must read.
