It thrilled me to continue the Blake Duology with Fallen Angel after reading December Knight’s Devil of Gilding. Fallen Angel picks up with the teenagers whom they kidnapped for a greater purpose, but were only subjected to beatings, starvation, and loneliness. Devil, their captor, takes them on a trip to hide them as Toby Blake’s father and uncle close in on their location. Uncle Clemit spends five years scouring among island chains, through disappointments and doubt, when he receives a mysterious letter from a man named Angel. The children were expected to return to Gilding. Meanwhile, Toby’s father remarries during a weak moment in his life. His marriage could be considered a mistake, but it could also give him the closure he was seeking.

Fallen Angel by December Knight concludes her Blake Duology, but I could easily see her building on one or two of her main characters. The storyline is intriguing as we view the lives of many of the individuals during the same timeline. They each face their own demons, on a physical or mental level. The reader will notice that December Knight keeps the characters focused though they live in a complex web of uncertainty. Her writing style and the intense drive to find the missing children will draw you into the lives of her characters. I love how this thriller shows the faithfulness and the struggles these Christians face through the darkest days of their lives. You will find this novel mesmerizing. Knight’s focus on quality in her work makes her stand out. I hope to see more books from Knight.

Fallen Angel is a work of thriller fiction based around Christian themes, and was penned by author December Knight. The second and final novel in the Blake Duology, following Devil of Gilding, we return to the troubles of the Blake family one year after young Toby went missing and tore the family apart. His father James continues to struggle, clinging to his faith as a faint strand of hope suggests that his beloved son might be returned to him. Meanwhile, James’s brother Clemit searches the clues from hope to despair and back again, and young Toby himself is engaged within a dark prison where a monster’s grip tightens on his fragile heart.

This concluding and dramatic follow-up to Devil of Gilding will certainly enthrall and thrill readers who enjoyed the first of author December Knight’s offerings in the Blake Duology. Here, we see the characters at the height of their struggle, pushed to the very limits of their faith and tested by the situations and uncertainty all around them. Toby is given plenty of space to develop, now much more than an obstacle or object of adoration. His struggle is emotively and intelligently written, transforming him into a more mature, hardened version of himself, at the same time allowing his grace and fragility to shine through. Plot wise, the strings from the previous book come together just as new intrigues are unleashed, but everything is crafted into a credible and structured conclusion. Overall, Fallen Angel is a recommended follow up for fans of the first thriller.

In December Knight’s second book of her Blake Duology series, titled Fallen Angel, we find Tobias still in the grasp of D who is trying to change him into the dark person he is himself. Toby is strong-willed though and resists the temptation, even though it brings him much pain and suffering. He clings to hope that gets him through the years he is in captivity. Meanwhile his uncle Clemit has never given up on his nephew, going from town to town, seeking out each piece of information. His life is lonely but he won’t rest until Toby is found and returned home. James recovers slowly from his injury but grows cold with each passing year that his son is not found. Adelaide manages to snake her way into James' heart and the marriage bed, consumed with hatred and bent on trying to make James forget Toby and his first wife ever existed. Her mental state deteriorates when they get a message that Toby is alive. She fears his return more than she fears her husband finding out her part in it. She doesn’t want anyone to get between herself and the man she waited years to dig her claws into. In her eyes, James was hers and Leah stole him from her. Toby being Leah’s son is a threat that won’t go away.

I thought December Knight’s first book in this series was mind-blowing. However, I was completely awed while reading Fallen Angel. Once more the story is so well written and the way Christian morals are woven into the storyline so brilliantly is amazing. Like in The Devil Of Gilding, this book has unique and effective undertones and parallels to biblical characters that the reader can relate to. While being introduced to a couple of new characters that I found myself enjoying, the returning ones were once again well written. I loved Toby’s character so much in this book. I was not prepared for how the book ended and am still reeling from it. This is definitely a series I would recommend to friends and other readers because not only is it a great tale but it has much to teach you as well.

Fallen Angel is the second book in the Blake Duology by December Knight. The story of the Blake family continues in this next installment in which James, Clemit, and Toby are all fighting their demons to find happiness and each other. It has been a year since Toby was kidnapped and now Clemit and James are both very desperate to find him. While James is trying to find his son, he also has to make some tough decisions that he might not be able to undo once they are made. Clemit is trying to make better decisions and find his nephew. He has some clues that may lead him to Toby, but when something serious happens he is scrambling for more clues that will prove to be his salvation. While these two are trying to find him, Toby is fighting his own battle to survive. Can the Blake family find a way to be together? Or does destiny have other plans for them all?

What a thrilling end to the duology! I thoroughly enjoyed how the author brought Toby into the spotlight and let us look at him as well. He is such a brave boy who was trying to do his best in order to survive and make the best of the situation he was in. Clemit had such great character development; he changed so much and he grew so much. By the end of this novel, he was a mature adult who understood the consequences of his actions and he became very considerate. All three Blake men had their work cut out for them and the author did an amazing job at tying everything together. This is such an emotional and action-packed family drama that deserves a TV show made of it! Another brilliant novel from this author.

Fallen Angel is the second and final volume of December Knight’s series, The Blake Duology, which already includes Devil of Gilding. It perfectly closes the circle, as we find Toby, his relatives, and the same Christian message that made the previous book enjoyable. At the beginning of Fallen Angel, Toby is still a prisoner. His family, and especially his uncle Clemit, hope to find him alive and continue to look for him. In the meanwhile, Adelaide’s ambiguity becomes a threat after she marries James, Toby’s father. People begin to suspect what she did with the young boy, and she is increasingly nervous. What will happen to her if the boy comes back?

Fallen Angel is as good as Devil of Gilding, and perhaps even better because now the events have their logical conclusion. Toby embodies Knight’s Christian message well, and the end makes it compelling and clear. The characters are as well developed as in the previous volume. Considering how Knight represents them, you understand their reasons even if their actions are reprehensible, as in Adelaide’s case. I like that the story presents a “dynamic” part, with Clemit’s quest for his nephew, and a “static” part, with Adelaide and James facing their problems. It gives variety to the novel. I recommend reading Fallen Angel only after you have read the first installment of The Blake Duology. This is not a standalone book. You can understand both its story and its message only if you already know what happened in the first one, so do not waste the opportunity to read it.
