Get yourself a healthy dose of the surreal and absurd with Amir Shaheen's F*** My Brain! This short story collection opens with a story about an immigrant physicist in Norway who invents a time machine to stop a far-right politician from spewing hateful ideology, only to see events spiraling out of control. After a tiger bit off two fingers of a blogger in a zoo, a news crew arrives to interview one of the resident monkeys. On his manager's insistence, an introverted rapper eventually agrees to step into the limelight with disastrous consequences. A horse and his son converse about gifting humans with the knowledge of automobiles. A young man's life becomes a nightmare when he finds himself stranded on an island with an influencer. A corporate boss conducts a tell-all interview with a drug dealer, a golddigger, and a thief.
If you're looking forward to reading something out of the box, F*** My Brain! is the perfect book. This short story collection will stretch the boundaries of your imagination to their limits and take you to places you didn't even know existed before. Amir Shaheen's fascinating collection of stories will shock, awe, polarize, and entertain you from start to finish. Shaheen doesn't shy away from touching upon some heavy topics, such as racism, bigotry, sexism, and the trappings of being an immigrant who is stuck between two different cultures. The prevalent use of dark humor makes the book such a delight. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will gladly recommend it to short story lovers.
