Enlightened Love by VK Walker is the first entry in a great paranormal romance series. The story begins with the blue-eyed, blonde-haired, sensuously beautiful Candi waking up from a very pleasant dream involving the man she longs to be with and she struggles to recall the details of the dream. Trying in vain, she only remembers a fragment of his face. All she wants is to be in the arms of this mysterious and sexually irresistible stranger. Jaynos is an unusual character who has spent his entire life fighting a powerful evil called the Forsaken. This evil has had a strong hold on his mind. His encounter with Candi is a promise of a future. But their relationship is threatened from all sides. He receives a mission that puts him in a dilemma, making him choose between Candi and his own people. As if that wasn’t enough to threaten a budding relationship, Candi’s ex is psychotic and is out to murder her.
The first two chapters of the book were mostly on the dreams of the key characters and details that highlighted the sexual aspect of the story, but the pacing gained momentum and quickened up as I delved into the following chapters. Those details were very, very necessary! The paranormal aspect of the narrative comes out quickly and from the start the reader already feels that there is energy beyond the characters . VK Walker’s language is beautiful, graceful, and loaded with sensual imagery. The conflict is well-developed and readers will enjoy how the author explores the psychological and emotional aspects of the story, using strong and compelling streams of consciousness to build character and plot. Enlightened Love isn’t your run-of-the-mill romance; it has unusual twists and a spiritual element to it that will entice readers. It is an interesting story.
