Element of Danger is a work of mystery and suspense fiction that was penned by author Heather Slawecki. Written as the second volume in the Element trilogy, the work continues where book one, Element of Secrecy, left off. We find our heroine Jenny O’Rourke still haunted by the demons of her past, and the secret order that almost ruined her life. Jenny decides to go back, desperate to expose the order for its true nature and heal from her own family ties to it. But the only way in is to become one of them, and an intense connection to a boy she once knew, now a man on the inside, brings a lot more drama than she bargained for.
Author Heather Slawecki delivers everything that she promises in terms of suspense, action, terror, and intrigue in this all-consuming mystery drama novel. Some of the secrets unfold in a kind of addictive documentary-style uncovering that we are all hooked on in today’s world, whilst others hit so close to home with the emotional connection to the heroine that it’s almost hard to bear. This combination keeps you turning pages and getting more and more invested in the well developed and realistic feelings of poor Jenny O’Rourke, reeling in her trauma with every twist of the plot. What results is a heroine you can really root for, and one who rises to the challenge as inventive and exciting obstacles are thrown at her. Overall, I would certainly recommend Element of Danger to thriller and mystery fans everywhere.
