Emily Rhodes and her life companion, Fred Costa, decide to move to rural Florida to spend their retirement years. However, things don’t work out as expected when Fred dies not having made a new will, leaving his ex-wife to inherit everything. This leaves Emily in dire straits with little to pay the bills. Somehow she must prove part of the purchase price of their home came from her retirement. She takes a mixology class, but after an altercation with her instructor, the job she gets only lasts one night as the man again causes her trouble.
Clara Rogers befriends her with a job in the bar of the local county club. Things quickly go downhill when she discovers the body of Marcus Davey, her old nemesis and the most influential rancher in the area, in the dumpster when she's taking out the trash.
As her situation grows more desperate, with additional bodies piling up, she is forced to take her future into her own hands to clear her name, find some type of financial security, and discover a killer before she becomes a victim.
Dumpster Dying is a very good, well plotted traditional mystery, great beginning, well flowing middle, and a satisfying ending. The characters are interesting and quite diverse. The readers will quickly find themselves pulling for the protagonist as she struggles to put some semblance of order back into her life. All that, with some interesting twists and surprises along the way. Overall, a good even flowing mystery, easy to read and enjoy.
