Duckling Duckling is an illustrated children’s book written by Cammie Ho. It depicts the life cycle of a duck, from the moment that a tiny beak cracks the egg from within and the duckling takes its very first breath. With its tiny fluffy yellow head poking out of the egg, the duckling frees itself from its casing and wanders around the meadows, walking on the soft green grass, and seeking out water to dip its tiny webbed feet. When walking together with its siblings, the ducklings tend to form a straight line behind their protective mother, who teaches her babies how to be safe as they grow. When the duckling emerges from the water, its tiny feet are dripping wet, as is the feathered down on the underside of its belly. Ducklings love to eat plants, both above and below the water, and as the duckling grows, feathers appear, which also seem to change the color of the duckling. As a grown duck, the former duckling is unrecognizable. Ducks love to swim and fly, spreading their wings wide and soaring high in the air. During mating season, the adult duck finds a mate and new eggs are laid, starting the life cycle of the next generation.

Cammie Ho presents a wonderful tale for children, showing the life cycle and habits of ducks, complete with beautiful photographic illustrations for each stage of the duck’s life. With the book written in very simple English, children will be delighted with the story and the pictures, which teach them about the life of a species different to their own. After learning about eggs, ducklings and ducks, children will grow up with knowledge and a bond to these beautiful creatures, while being thrilled to see them up close in real life. Duckling Duckling shows the different colors of ducks and how beautiful they look when they are born, when they swim, grow, and fly. I very much enjoyed this book and recommend it to all lovers of nature, especially young children, who can grow up admiring and respecting the animals of our world.
