Duck is very creative! Duck is an artist and not just in one discipline but in many. He can draw, sculpt, paint and even cake decorate. Duck is shown practicing each discipline with cheerful, colorful pictures. Duck Does Art by Ashley Moluf is beautifully laid out with simple one-sentence text on the verso page and a beautiful illustration on the recto page. It is perfect for early readers! What is wonderful is that the artistic endeavors go beyond the typical painting and drawing to provide an introduction into the larger world of creativity. Even if kids are not familiar with a particular art form, the pictures will enlighten them.

Ashley Moluf has done a terrific job, once again, creating an engaging early reader. Each sentence begins with “Duck does" and then adds the artistic activity that the duck is pursuing. I particularly enjoyed Duck’s topiary that looks, not surprisingly, a lot like him. As a former children’s librarian. I think this is the kind of book that would fly off the shelf. It is exactly what parents and teachers look for in an early reader; simple text, an interesting topic, and excellent illustrations. Not only is it a great early reader but it might also spark an interest in an artistic pursuit. Duck demonstrates so many ways to be creative that kids will feel the urge to become creative themselves. Duck Does Art is a must-purchase for all school and public libraries! I am looking forward to seeing more from Ashley Moluf soon.
