Stories of ex-pats are popular themes in romantic films and novels. What makes Sara Verrall’s Dream It, Do It ... Why Not? special is that it is a real-life account. This makes it even more interesting than merely romantic. Following your heart often starts with dreams, and this is how her tale begins. Her move from England to France is partly inspired by a romance novel by Judith Krantz. In this charming nonfiction work, the author chronicles her ex-pat life in France that began in 2015. A woman with no practical skills and a poor grasp of the French language, feeling like a stranger in a strange land, soon learns to embrace France as her own, making new friends, and falling in love.

Dream It, Do It ... Why Not? is a book with a sweet lesson about living the kind of life you want and stopping to smell the roses. Sara Verrall gives you plenty of elements that might convince you to follow your own heart as well. The narrative may be slow at times because Verrall really takes you through every detail of her rationale for deciding to change locations in life. But she’s also got you covered on the future after those decisions, as she happily gives you a brief overview of how things are going with her today. Reading this story awakens that distinct desire present in most of us: seeking to inhabit a new world that will open your heart and mind to a life-changing experience.

I loved it! Thank you so very much.
Your style of writing is so direct, honest and compelling - of your plans, your thoughts, your meetings and your sheer enjoyment of being.
Your initial decision was incredibly brave, but it couldn’t have worked without your openness and willingness to enjoy taking part with all those new worlds.
You have a wonderful ability to listen to people and to show your enjoyment in doing so.
May everything continue to go very well for you, your Swedish man and your cats….

A fabulous read!
Sara Verrall has done herself proud writing about her new life in the region where I lived for 7 years. A lot of my good friends who visited me there over the years, would recognise the places Sara writes so beautifully about. Highly recommended.

If this book doesn't make you want to get up and go immediately, then I don't know! I had the added bonus of knowing the area very well and therefore it felt even more exciting to read Sara's story and how she got on with her new life. We have all dreamed of life in the sun, but very few people actually do it. Sara's story shows both sides, the trials and tribulations of an expat. Having lived abroad in different countries for most of my life, I can totally relate. You love it, but you miss everyone. You have to be brave, but your experiences and the people you meet will make it worth while. I loved the book and it certainly makes me want to pack my bag and make plans again!! And having had the pleasure of meeting Sara recently, I think she has found what she was looking for in France!

I have always been a reluctant reader of other peoples travel adventures of any kind, my view always being that the experiences had to be first hand rather than read about to be appreciated. Sara’s book has changed that view.
Setting off to France and following a dream spanning since happy childhood holidays, the author embarks on her brave move, leaving everything familiar behind to face a new life, new people and an unfamiliar language in a remote French village. Making friends, negotiating the language barrier and Sara’s personal challenges along the way make this an extremely entertaining and engrossing read.

Sara’s sense of humour shines in this debut book. I lived through her challenges with her, and her descriptions of the places and people give the feeling of wanting to visit and see its beauty and to personally know the characters. Every time I picked the book up it was very hard to put down. The book is living proof that you can dream it.. and do it!
