If your idea of a fantastic read is one that has you turning those pages so fast you’re almost disappointed when the story’s finished, then you will love Don’t Kill Me Because I’m Beautiful by H. Gewirtz. What an excellent read for psychological thriller fans who are also curious about what goes on behind the beautiful faces and places, the glitz, gloom, and glamour of Hollywood. H. Gewirtz gives us an eye-opening look into celebrity and non-celebrity lives as his protagonist, pretty Brooklyn Petitjean, looks for love and trust but instead finds betrayal, abuse and evil. Readers follow Brooklyn’s thoughts and movements with increasing tension, and when she comes face to face with the real monsters of her childhood, she can barely breathe, and neither can we!
It’s all too frightening and cinematically real, but given H. Gewirtz’s background in TV scriptwriting, that’s no surprise. What is a bit of a surprise is the fact that this is H. Gewirtz’s first novel. The complex plot is thoroughly engaging and full of twists: realistic, but with an acceptable amount of surrealism. Characters are believable and easy to relate to; the dialogue is plentiful, and the description is just enough. The themes of good and evil are nicely contrasted, with underlying disapproval of how possessions, position, and power matter more to some people than humanity. In short, Don’t Kill Me Because I’m Beautiful gives readers chills, but it also thrills on many levels. Don’t think twice about selecting this new novel for your next read. Just grab it!
