Do you own a dog? Does he/she look like you? Or perhaps the dog looks like someone else in your family? Victoria Smith’s story, Dogs DO Look Like You! takes young readers on a journey down Canine Lovers Lane. Each house from 1 to 10 has a dog who looks like his/her owner. It’s a clever comparison to enable young readers to look for similarities and differences in appearance. It’s also a journey of numbers as readers first learn the numbers 1 to 10 consecutively, then they learn to skip numbers, beginning with the odd numbers and then with the even numbers. This is a story that includes observation and numerical arithmetic.
Victoria Smith’s picture book story, Dogs DO Look Like You! The Perfect Picture Book for All Dog Lovers!, is a fun look at canine–human similarities. It’s a comparison of appearances that’ll have readers of all ages chuckling along as the author challenges the visual perceptions of the readers. It’s a bit of a mystery, too, as the author presents numbers and facts and funny innuendoes of doggy miscellanea, like the Lady Magee of royal descent and her Welsh corgi, a dog that makes so little mess (or so they say). It’s a rhyming story led by one character, the narrator, who doesn’t own a dog. The challenge at the end of the story is for young readers to determine what dog would best suit this young narrator. Based on scientific facts, this story will entertain and educate dog-loving young readers.
