But only one side of the island is safe. The other? That’s where the reaper does his work. Crystal Island is the place of dreams but someone is about to fight back. The perfect cure, the perfect drug, is about to become corrupted. The lab blows and the drug floats through the air. The perfect cure is about to become a disease that infects everyone. Only the reaper can decide who will live or die and only he understands the real meaning of the darkness descending on the island. Will Jo and Gage survive the fallout?
Dirtbag Island by Melissa Nottingham is a strong, heady story of addiction with a touch of romance, horror, and science fiction thrown in for good measure. There’s an eclectic mix of characters, each with their own backstory to explain how they came to be on the island, and each is likable and relatable in their own way. It’s a hard-hitting novel, with graphic language and descriptions throughout – not for younger readers and definitely not for the faint-hearted. The story is packed with action, grabbing your attention right from the start and holding on to the bitter end. It drags you into a crazy world, and leaves you partly wanting more and partly wondering what on earth just happened! It is captivating yet full of horror, an engaging story that will fill you with dread while enlightening you at the same time. Highly recommended reading for those who want something gritty and tough to get their teeth into.
