Dinopotamus Solves A Mystery is written and illustrated by Lois Wickstrom. Dinopotamus is a curious creature that shares a classroom with young students. Every day at nap time, he sleeps comfortably just like the kids do. The kids and Dinopotamus always try to find the warmest spot to take their naps. None of them can figure out how to tell which spots in the classroom will be the warmest. Dinopotamus realizes that he can see things that humans cannot. What he sees may very well be the answer to all of their problems. What could Dinopotamus see that people can’t? Will he be able to communicate his discovery to the teacher and her students? How will he know if they understand what he’s trying to say when he doesn’t actually talk?
Dinopotamus Solves A Mystery by Lois Wickstrom is a wonderful read-along story for children of learning age. This adorable tale of a classroom mascot that doesn’t speak the same language is a great story about friends, companionship, and early education that is easy for little ones to relate to. I love the way this story tackles the basic issues of language barriers, understanding, and sharing your best traits with your friends so that kids can understand how to communicate with others better. Wickstrom has provided beautiful illustrations that fill the pages with colorful images that complement the story. I recommend this story to anyone with children that love a short, sweet bedtime story or those that are learning how to read. Dinopotamus Solves A Mystery would be a great addition to any child’s book collection.
