Sixty-five million years ago, chameleons shared the land with some of the biggest creatures the world has ever seen – dinosaurs. Here, we meet Dillon the chameleon. He is happy to be alone in this world and avoids the dinosaurs until a storm arrives. Being so small, it is difficult to build a warm place to stay. He asks for help from a slew of nearby dinosaurs, including a T-Rex, a brontosaurus, and a triceratops. No one wants to help him! Why won’t anyone be kind and help him? Is it because he has avoided everyone for so long? As the snow falls, he finds himself cold and sad. Luckily, Dillon comes across a frozen pond with a wise old fish, and everything changes. He learns a very important lesson before going back to the dinosaurs.
Dillon the Chameleon: Jurassic Survivor by Andy Pave was an enjoyable prehistoric adventure. It’s hard not to find dinosaurs entertaining and kids are sure to love this book. The story, characters, and illustrations are definitely eye-catching and made me want to keep reading. Each character has their own unique personality, much like we do as humans. The story does a great job of showing how important friendship and kindness are. Dillon the Chameleon also stresses the importance of sharing and being empathetic to others around you. It’s clear Andy Pave wants kids to learn about empathy and the book does an amazing job of portraying this in a way kids can understand. This book is a great story and lesson for kids in elementary school.
