North Korean military units cross the 38th parallel and sweep into South Korea in a lightning offensive. Unconfirmed reports claim an attack on a nuclear facility is the reason behind their advance. Before the world can grasp the actual situation, America must put its hundreds of military personnel stationed in the south into action before they are overrun. American servicemen and women must put up brave resistance to the one situation everyone talks about, but no one believes it will come to pass. This is the Korean Peninsula, as it could soon become in J. Loren McCallum's Die by Night.
An apocalyptic scenario plays out in J. Loren McCallum's novel. His storyline is as realistic as one can imagine, but how he plays it from the opening chapters, involving critical players in the conflict and their potential responses without missing a step, is simply on another level. For a story with an interestingly large number of principal characters, his impressive attention to detail keeps the subplots together without making the reader feel like they are being overloaded with information. You would most likely need to reacquaint yourself with military tools and terminology to truly appreciate this riveting story, but I am more than certain whatever minor inconvenience this may cause will be forgotten once you are immersed in the novel's story arc. In Die by Night, McCallum uses incredibly graphic storytelling and deep character creation to weave together the kind of action novel you will not want to put down.
