Diamond Strength by Brianna Poster is a cute little story for young children with a strong message. Ophelia is a girl who realizes that she has to find her strength after being picked on for everything in her class. She begins her journey and goes past the grocery store first, then a fitness center, and finally the library. The librarian pulls out a book called Diamond Strength and gives it to Ophelia. Ophelia reads it with a lot of interest and concentration. She goes home and makes diamonds by cutting paper shapes. In school, she hands them over to those who are having a bad day with a strong and positive note attached with it. The book conveys the message of believing in yourself.
I would recommend this book for one's personal collection as well as libraries because it has a very strong message of finding one's own strength. The author has put the message across very subtly so that it can be understood well by kids. The illustrations give more clarity to what the author is trying to convey. The pictures are colorful and they give life to the characters and scenes in the book. Illustrations form an important part of children's story books and attracts kids to pick up a book.
This book can be read at bedtime and also in classrooms for read-aloud and story-telling sessions. It is important that authors convey a message, a concept, or an educational point to children while writing books for them and this is one such wonderful book.
