I am a native of Northwest Indiana growing up in Gary when it was a true melting pot of cultures. My three month stay in a village in Yugoslavia in the 1950s inspired me to write a fictionalized story full of facts which has been labeled a ‘mystery with history’ by a newspaper reviewer.
The books are about life in Croatia starting in 1892 to 1906 about the immigrants who come to Gary, IN. Book four starts in 1911 where the Dalmatian people settled in New Orleans.
The first 3 Destiny books have each won a Reader's Favorite award.

I am now working on the 6th and last of the Destiny Series. My plan had been to only
write the Trilogy, but my readers are so fond of the characters and events, that I have been asked to continue.
In the past I wrote feature articles for a local newspaper.
I have given many talks and presentations of my actual Dowry brought from Croatia, throughout the US.

Destiny's Design by Rosemary Gard is a novel that beautifully captures the soul and spirit of immigrants. Although I haven’t read any work by this author, and even though this is part of a series, I was able to connect with the story and the characters right from the very beginning. Set against the backdrop of twentieth century America, with war looming ahead in Europe and immigrants making their way to the US, this story features very likable characters. Stevo Markovich has just returned to New Orleans from Gary, Indiana, and with the help of friends, he establishes himself as a successful hotelier. But the beauty of life and the communion shared amongst immigrants will be tested by the bubonic plague and the advent of the news of war in Europe. Stevo still misses Gary and has an agenda to bring his old friends with him to New Orleans. Read to find out what happens and how the characters deal with the crisis.
This is a well-written story with a setting that is colorful and exciting. There is a lot to love in Rosemary Gard’s craft, including her beautiful writing which features exquisite descriptions of characters, actions, and setting. There are well-developed dialogues that make the read both interesting and engaging. Readers will enjoy the social and cultural commentaries as they read about the dynamics of life as lived by immigrants. I enjoyed the narrative voice and the tone as well as the engaging plot lines. Destiny's Design is a book that encourages values of communion, family, and respect, but it features characters and a story that will linger with readers.
