Delight in Your Hue: The Creator Painted You by Bree Burks is, as its title suggests, a delightful and entertaining lesson in the beauty of diversity, chock full of positive messages for young readers and the adults who encourage them. Bo, a blue fish, has only known other blue fish in his young life. One fateful night, he is awakened by a red fish, who escorts him to a red fish party. Bo has a hard time fitting in with the red fish because he is blue. Just when he is feeling homesick and rejected, he meets a green fish, and so begins a journey of personal discovery, through which Bo meets fish of every color of the rainbow. He finds himself in the presence of the Creator, who calls Bo a work of art and says that the day He painted Bo lives in his heart. Delight in Your Hue concludes with timely and positive reminders that any color painted by the Creator can shine with its own special light and that every fish has a special place in the Creator’s world. The message is simultaneously uplifting and contagious.

Bree Burk’s enchanting story is richly supported by Cha Consul’s vibrant and beguiling illustrations, which capture the many hues of Rainbow City (Bo’s underwater world) in whimsical masterstrokes. As if such an exceptional and universally appealing story weren’t enough, Delight in Your Hue offers a QR code with relevant and engaging activities and resources for young readers to continue the discussion and begin their own journey toward universal love. With so many value-added features, Delight in Your Hue is much more than just a positive book for young readers; it is a fully engaging interactive read, sure to raise awareness of the beauty of diversity and the power of acceptance.
