Deep Craving: A Collection of Poems by Joe Giampaolo is an insightful collection of poetry that beautifully shares the complexities of humanity and the intricacies of relationships. The poems are divided into four parts: Love, Pain, Essence, and Social Justice. The theme of Love is expressed through tender poems filled with emotion, desire, and affection. Pain is vividly reflected in heart-aching poems that highlight loss, abuse, and despair. Captivating poems, in Essence, address time and place in imaginative and innovative ways. Social Justice depicts issues honestly and with hope for a better future. Two touching and deeply poignant poems complete this collection. A lovely section is also included that encourages reflection and space for readers to take notes.
Joe Giampaolo’s Deep Craving is a thoughtful and engaging collection that provides readers with many opportunities to consider the themes of love, loss, social justice, and the abstract in their own lives. The author skillfully and eloquently captures emotions and experiences that many have experienced and will be able to relate to. The joys and sorrows, challenges, and triumphs of life are highlighted throughout these poems. The many facets of love from the rush of falling in love, to heartbreak, to the contentment of a dedicated relationship resonated with me. I especially enjoyed the romance and enchantment found in “The Four Seasons,” and the support and encouragement that is gorgeously described in “Where Even Eagles Dare Not To Fly.” The Essence section prompted me to consider time and space from a new and different perspective. This is a highly recommended and inspiring read.
