Dear Cole, Never Say Never is quite an unusual book. Upon finding out about her untimely pregnancy, Cara Jones decides to write letters in the form of a journal to her unborn child. In these letters, she shares with him about her own childhood and the choices she made that led her to become his mommy. Cara Jones shares her experience as a world traveller in an open and frank manner. She doesn’t try to hide or whitewash her mistakes, but uses them as stepping stones to growth and maturity. Cara Jones shares how she spent most of her childhood hating herself because of who she was and the problems she had to face. Cara’s medical condition was misunderstood at the time and people kept telling her she could never do this or never accomplish that. But Cara pressed on through her seizures, two brain surgeries, and medications from hell to prove that the word "never" is nothing but a mindset.
Dear Cole, Never Say Never is a well written story in which a mother builds up her son’s identity. By sharing her own secrets with her unborn child, Cara Jones opens the door for him to know and be proud of who he is. Written in the form of a series of letters, Cara Jones pours out her heart in an admirable act of love from June 2004 until January 2005 when she begins to experience labor pains. Readers of all ages will enjoy this book and many will easily identify with Cara Jones and the struggles she faced throughout her life. The most important message she conveys to all is to never give up. Even if you make a wrong turn, recalculate your position and refocus.
