Dark Angel is the second book in The Given Trilogy by Mickey Martin, a suspenseful story with a strong appeal to fans of romance. Damon Night leaves Given to work as an undercover in an underworld infested by narcotics. It gives him an opportunity to allow Lilliana — the woman who has become his own drug — space to focus. When the story starts, Lilliana is missing him terribly because he has been the hit that always raised her spirits and motivated her to go after her goals. Lilliana completes her studies and proceeds to practice as a leading therapist, helping the mentally and physically handicapped. Damon returns after five years, and a lot has happened during his absence; a lot has happened to him as well. While Lilliana is thrilled to have him back, can she accept the man he has become, and when their bond is threatened by powerful forces, can she walk past the bad experience he has put himself through and stand with him against all odds?
This is a wonderful story for those who enjoy suspense. The pages are filled with a lot that readers can look forward to — romance, dangerous situations, and crime. The worldbuilding is impeccable and the author writes characters that fit perfectly into the world he has created. The writing is beautiful and the prose is flawless, filled with strong descriptions and dialogues. I loved the way Mickey Martin handles characters: they are multidimensional and real. The relationships are well-written and this enhances the realism that permeates the writing. Dark Angel is fast-paced and steamy with action, and it explores the hearts of the characters. A clever plot in the hands of a great storyteller.
