Cultivating a Creative Culture by Justin Dauer is a non-fiction, business/finance read. It is a comprehensive book about creating and cultivating a creative culture in a firm (whatever its size). It includes a thorough list of what can be done and it is astoundingly creative and different from everything I’ve heard about the corporate world. It also includes very relevant pieces of advice, things that we tend to forget but which are actually essential such as: “[…] all too often the organizational culture in which we’re expected to work – to create – stifles the very gifts for which we were hired.” It is also partly based on Swedish wisdom. As it works perfectly and is straightforward, why should we not gain from this observation and implement similar ideas?

Cultivating a Creative Culture by Justin Dauer is a book I immediately wanted to read as creativity and cultivating a creative culture is one of the main tasks I set myself as a literature teacher. It goes without saying that I wanted to learn more about the corporate world and creativity. And I was not disappointed at all! This book is first and foremost extremely interesting: great ideas, which are easy to adopt, honest and real-life examples experienced by the author himself, and the pearls of wisdom he gained from these, a human-centric viewpoint which is only about the well-being of the staff and which allows creativity to develop instead of being stifled. Everything in this book helps you be a better boss, a better employee, and know what to expect and when to speak up. I highly recommend it for all readers as it makes us rethink everything, including why we work and how we should expect to work.
