Cryptic is book two in a compelling series by Erik Dean: Garbageman. It is a gripping story that features humans, supernatural heroes, demons, werewolves, and vampires. Well, when some readers hear about werewolves and vampires, they immediately think about the clichés associated with this genre, but this is a unique story with memorable characters and a strong story line.
David Turley has lost his telekinetic gifts after events he has lived through most recently and, while he is figuring out how to regain his powers, strange things begin to happen. But what changes everything is the Hopi artefact that falls into his hands, making him a target from those of the underworld. Can his wife Julie's knowledge of arts help him figure out the answer to a riddle that has disturbed him and an escape from powers that are after him? There is a lot of action and drama as the protagonist engages in terrible battles and tries to stay a step ahead of a serial killer out to get him.
There is a lot for readers in this engaging story that is punctuated with suspense, action, and humor. Readers will experience the excitement of what it feels like for a human to walk the world inhabited by werewolves and spirits, be in a vampire nightclub, and fight a demon. The pulse is powerful, the characters real and memorable, and they are crafted to create the kind of conflict that transforms a simple story into an extraordinary tale. Erik Dean is a great storyteller and Cryptic is a huge success.
