Courage lives up to her name; she is not afraid of anything. She isn't even scared of the tallest slide at the park. When faced with danger on any given day, Courage will rush right in without a second thought. One evening, Courage decides to hunt for the legendary lost treasure of Alexander DuPan. DuPan was said to have been married to a princess who lived in a castle made of clay. Since Courage doesn't know where to start on her hunt, she decides to ask for directions from her good friend, Jake the Troll. Jake is surprised to see the barefooted Courage out in the snow, until he remembered it was Courage he was considering. Happily divulging the secret whereabouts of the treasure, Jake is alarmed to watch Courage run off before he can warn her of the dangers that lurk around the lonely cemetery at this time of night. When Jake and Courage find themselves trapped in the land of the dead, how will they find a way out? Will Courage discover her namesake in time?
A young girl must discover inner strength to find her way home in the exciting children's adventure book, Courage by John-Mark Kruger. Discover the meaning of true friendship in this charming illustrated children's tale. Courage may be small and dance to the beat of her own drum, but she is also fearless. Despite having to face her terrors, Courage takes on the unknown with grace and poise. I appreciated the story; the graphics were engaging and the characters scintillating. Filled with child-like faith, trust, and courage, this story is perfect for middle-graders. Due to somewhat frightening illustrations on a few pages, the author suggests this book for older children. I enjoyed this story and the illustrations. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future!
