Couch Potato Crisis by Erik Rounds is the second book in the Couch Potato Chronicles. Princess Kiwi is no stranger to being kidnapped but this latest time has hit a personal note with Tasha as the culprit is none other than her nemesis Queen Murderjoy. Part of this journey comes with the gathering of the last elemental orbs and it won't be an easy rescue for Tasha as Princess Kiwi is still struggling with events that led to a betrayal between them. Tasha faces another problem as danger threatens the world with the god of destruction looming overhead and events seem to be heading towards the end. Their journey also coincides with the great Wombat Island kart racing championship and could prove to be a challenge in itself.
Erik Rounds delivers a unique story through the use of a world that is every gamer's dream come true - a video game reality brought to life. The story adheres to the video game style and humor that will provide amusement for devoted gamers, though the story is an open concept that anyone can enjoy, whether they game or not. The humor is directly pulled from the world that's set up within the game with jokes about Princess Kiwi being kidnapped multiple times, sarcasm of the characters, and jokes at the world's own expense. Gamers will find the story quite humorous and will easily catch the satire that Rounds has woven throughout. The style of the story recreates a video game with a breakdown of stats, levels, conditions, abilities, weaknesses, and more. These are woven throughout the story in a way as you would see in a video game and which Rounds has replicated to create the presence of the world down to the fine details.
The occasional image is included throughout in a black and white illustrative style that often depicts a creature and provides a visual that nicely complements the style. The story makes a shift from the third person, following Tasha and her friends, to the first-person narrative of the real world gamer playing within the world. Rounds has created a satirical and humorous world that brings video game reality to life. Couch Potato Crisis has imagination, humor, epic fantasy, and adventure.
