Clyde is a German Shephard from Slovakia. Now living in the United States, Clyde has a very important job. He’s a K9 Officer for the Winchendon Police Department, specifically trained by the Massachusetts State Police. He’s a very smart and lovable dog; lovable, that is, just so long as you’re not the bad guy. A lot of work goes into training a K9 Officer and Clyde has to be retrained on a regular basis to make sure he doesn’t forget some of his skills. He’s been trained to sniff out drugs, chase down criminals, find missing people, and so much more. His best friend is also his partner, Officer Jim. Clyde is definitely a key player in keeping the peace in Winchendon. He’s a very fur-ocious crime-fighting officer.
Tammi Croteau Keen and Todd Civin’s picture book story, Clyde the “Fur”-ocious K9 Crime Fighter, is an educational gem for teaching young readers about specially trained police dogs like Clyde. This is a true story; Clyde is a real fur-ocious crime fighter. After introducing some of the important jobs that dogs are born to do, this story describes Clyde’s training from when he was a young puppy and leads up to his great accomplishment of becoming an official K9 officer partnered with Officer Jim. The simple, but colorful illustrations depict Clyde’s progression from officer-in-training to a fully-fledged K9 officer. The language is suitable for young readers and this would be a good book for a young reader to start learning to read themselves. A great book for young dog-lovers.
