Fasten your seatbelt, kids, for the new and exciting Ooey Gooey Stories series has arrived. It begins with the adventures of the Chocolate Space Bunnies by Cheryl DaVeiga. It’s a story within a story as a boy named Ooey Gooey Looey loves chocolates and sweets so much that he would gladly tell a story in exchange for these treats. Kids love giving him chocolates because they believe that his stories are true. He tells a tale that a long time ago, the earth had never heard of chocolates. Meanwhile, in a distant galaxy, a planet named Fondue is inhabited by Fonduliens who are bunnies. Planet Fondue is made of chocolates, sugar, sweets, and everything nice. The problem is, the planet is melting as a result of an extremely warm climate. A crew of brave Fonduliens set out to find another habitable planet. What would happen then if they stumble upon earth? Will the humans accept them or drive them away?
This is a charming and colorful story that is highly appealing, both in content and illustration. Who doesn’t like bunnies and chocolates? Cheryl DaVeiga has cooked up a little tale that puts this brilliant mix together with a message of courage, friendship, and even global warming. You will love the way Luis Peres provides the visual interpretation of the story. He combines texture, lines, and colors to give an attractive quality to his creations with a strong sequential presentation that draws you from page to page. As a bonus, kids are treated to a find Ooey Gooey Looey poser as he appears in a holographic-style image on selected pages. Chocolate Space Bunnies provides a strong opener to a promising new series that both kids and parents are sure to enjoy. Highly recommended.
