Charli's Adventure Journal, Destination: Victoria, Texas and Beyond is an intriguing guidebook following Charlotte Beatriz Phieffer's adventures, or Charli for short. Author Cheryl Johnson has young readers tag along with Charli as she explores her hometown. After giving historical background information about Victoria, Texas, such as the age and founder, the story also introduces Charli's birthday. It then follows with Charli's overview of her first adventure, including her favorite thing about Victoria, Texas, as well as the most interesting thing about her adventure. Each exploration thereafter follows the same structure with Charli talking about her adventure, and then the overview. From camping at Lake Texana to checking out a discovery museum to going to the Texas Zoo, you will gain insights about Victoria, Texas.
Charli's Adventure Journal, Destination: Victoria, Texas and Beyond is one of the most original books that I have ever read. The photos that Cheryl Johnson used to enhance the reading experience, and the illustrations by Kathryn EG Harvey will immerse young readers in the journal and are a fantastic addition. I liked the adventure overviews a lot. It was exciting to read Charli's take on the most interesting things about her explorations, such as the thrill of seeing an alligator for the first time or learning about the Green Anole and how it camouflages itself with leaves to catch dinner. I enjoyed learning about the Texas Zoo, as well as the other surprises that this book contains. The information will captivate both children and adults. Cheryl and Kathryn deserve immense praise for the hard work that they put into this book.
