Jeffrey W. Tenney’s time travel novel, Caveman’s Daughter, is the second book in this series. It continues on the adventure initiated in the first book, taking Emily back to the Neanderthal era to offer protection and to stop the destructive greed from the twenty-first century that is set to destroy them. The author provides a thorough summary of the first book, so a reader won’t be lost if they read Caveman’s Daughter first. He provided just enough information to help the reader make sense of the plot and, as the story progresses, there are references made to what happened in the first book, usually through dialogue. The characters are well developed and the setting is clearly described. The reader certainly feels like part of the story as the plot thickens, leading to an unexpected climax and resolution. The author’s thorough knowledge of the Neanderthal era is evident, but certainly not overbearing as he shares just enough detail to make the story genuine. A great read.

Caveman’s Daughter is a work of fiction in the historical, time travel, and speculative sub-genres, and was penned by author Jeffrey W. Tenney. Written for adult audiences due to the presence of some explicit language usage and scenes of violence, this sequel novel takes place after the events of Caveman in the following year. When Emily discovers that the cave which can transport others back to 40,000 BCE has been found by other modern people with sinister intentions, this sparks a quest to protect the Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal people whom she previously bonded with when rescuing her father. What results is an atmospheric time travel adventure with very high stakes for the future.

Author Jeffrey W. Tenney has crafted a really intriguing adventure novel which is sure to capture the hearts and minds of those who love both time travel fiction and the times of the caveman. I really enjoyed the way that the tribes and ancient people were depicted, and it’s clear that the author has done a lot of work in crafting the historical atmosphere of the world that Emily wants to save. As a central protagonist, we can root for Emily’s kind heart and strong spirit throughout the book, and the plot offers plenty of great twists and sinister actions from the other ‘moderns’ who would spoil the good work she and her father did before. Overall, I would certainly recommend Caveman’s Daughter to historical and time travel fiction fans for its atmospheric writing and a well-crafted plot.
