Cat Café by Mollie Hunt is the fifth book in the Crazy Cat Lady Cozy Mystery series. Lynley has received some truly unsettling news. Her favorite cat café has unexpectedly closed down and no one seems to know why. So, she decides it’s time to check in on the owner, who happens to also be a good friend of her mother’s. When Lynley arrives, she discovers the owner’s body. She can’t imagine who would want to hurt Bea or where the four black cats at the café could have disappeared. The mystery has Lynley even more unsettled when an old photograph has her mother keeping secrets and the killer seems to have set their sights on her mother. As if this was not enough to keep her worried, her anxious cat Solo has been acting off, Bea’s grandson has arrived in town to take over the café, the handsome new cop asks her to dinner, and a cat with special needs is in search of a new home.
Lynley remains spunky as ever as she tackles three interlocking mysteries: Bea’s death, four missing black cats, and her mother’s secret. Mollie Hunt introduces plenty more kitties for you to love in this new installment. The story delves into the possibility of romance for Lynley when she befriends the new detective and the two form a connection over the case. The mystery is centered on Lynley’s family life and draws in some friction with her mother who has a secret that leaves Lynley feeling unsettled. Even though you don’t know what the secret is, the weight of the past is still felt throughout as the presence of this mysterious tragedy hovers over her mother and piques Lynley’s curiosity. The mystery is personal and emotional which draws Lynley in deeper with each new clue unearthed and leads to a shocking killer. Hunt packs in the charm with the usual humor, heart, and kitty love that made each of the previous books so delightful. Cat Café is an emotional mystery about family and secrets with a shocking turn of events, tragedy, and a look at the past.
