Carried by Grace: A Guide for Mothers of Victims of Sexual Abuse by Debra L. Butterfield is an uplifting book that will reiterate one's faith in God and His presence in everyone's life. The book revolves around the emotional suffering of a child who has been abused by someone whom she trusted, her trauma, anger and bitterness, and finally searching for guidance and being healed by God. The tumultuous emotions that surface in one's life after finding out your child has been molested are tangible in the book. The author shares her story of pain, trauma and grief, thereby reaching out to other mothers who have been in similar situations.
The book deals with the many aspects of pain that one feels when being betrayed in life and also the healing power of God who can ultimately pull them out of the evil and darkness that remain in their minds. The tips and techniques are helpful, not only to the mothers of abused children; they are also helpful in handling difficult situations in life. The author's experiences and her wisdom that everything is possible for God gives readers comfort and encourages them to focus more on their spiritual and emotional growth. The author also handles all the emotions one undergoes after being molested - fear, anger, the why-me question, shock, grief, guilt and many more with honesty and clarity. I like the book for the fact that the author treats the topic with honesty, sincerity and dignity.
