Carnival of the Dead by Dita Dow invites readers into a mysterious and abandoned amusement park filled with dark secrets that keep visitors on their toes. The story follows YouTubers Seth and Kim as they embark on an adventure in the eerie Carnival of Dreams for their channel, "Ruin Revelations." What starts as a typical urban exploration quickly turns into a thrilling nightmare with living shadows, spectral figures, and rides that seem to come to life. As Seth and Kim fight to stay safe, Dita presents readers with a chance to pick between two different endings: one hints at a haunting aftereffect, while the other delivers a surprising twist on their quest for viral fame. With vivid descriptions and an interactive format, this short horror story captures the eerie charm of haunted places and the risks involved in uncovering the mysteries of the unknown.
I enjoyed the eerie setting and concept of Carnival of the Dead—there's something inherently spooky about an abandoned amusement park. Dita Dow's descriptions of the decaying rides and ghostly presences bring the place to life effectively. The fast pace kept the suspense up, and I loved the interactive choice of endings, which added a fun twist. Seth and Kim are such likable characters. The short story format made me want more depth in their personalities and more emotional engagement. The themes of the past haunting the present and the risks of chasing fame are interesting, and the brevity of the story left me wanting more. Carnival of the Dead delivers plenty of chills and readers will want to explore more of this suspenseful experience.
