Can a Spider Be Fluffy? An Early Science Story written and illustrated by Audrey Sauble features 15 spiders plus an eight-legged look-a-like that can be mistaken for a spider. The illustrations are much bigger than real life, so it’s easy to see the fine details. Some spiders have spikes. Some have patterns. Some are fat. Some are thin. Some have long legs. Some spin webs and some don’t. Some are brightly colored. Some are brown. And one of the cutest spiders in the book is pink. And, of course, the book has pictures of fluffy spiders. The book includes useful information about each type of spider it pictures.
Audrey Sauble’s book about spiders, Can a Spider Be Fluffy?, will fascinate anyone who is curious about spiders. Learn about different-shaped webs and different-shaped spiders. What do spiders like to catch and eat? How do they trap their meals? Do they make zig-zags? What kinds of nests do they make for their babies? What kinds of spiders live outdoors? Which kinds live indoors? Are they dangerous? The book uses the common names of spiders, like a garden spider. Even the spider in Charlotte’s Web gets a mention. A bonus section at the end gives the Latin names of the spiders that scientists use. Perfect for anyone who likes to look at spiders, or wants to learn more about them. The illustrations are invitingly lovely and colorful. The text is easy to understand. This book will have young readers looking more closely at the spiders they encounter – hoping to identify them.
