A husband and parent to a wonderful wife and four great kids that have inspired me in many ways. In the early 2000, I produced a local newsletter called the "Ottoville Commotion" that highlighted area sports teams and the players on them. My two youngest sons are heavily involved in the martial arts which led to me writing several articles for an area martial arts magazine. I finally took the bull by the horns early in 2014 and decided to pursue my passion for writing and started a fictional children's series call "Brendon & Carson's Ninja Adventures" which focuses on promoting the martial arts and positive benefits that come from it. My daughter and her love for music then took me in another direction and I started another series called "Tori and the Jackstones" which promotes the benefits of music to youth. My hopes are to inspire young readers to take up martial arts and to get involved in music programs. The books do not play down to a child's age but seek to challenge them in hopes that they will go to the dictionary's or read the books with older siblings or parents and create new and lasting bonding memories. Filled with word searches, mazes and more along the way that parents and children together can enjoy and take on.

Brendon and Carson’s Ninja Training and Adventures by Rod P. Stoner is an interactive puzzle book which not only tells the story of Brendon and Carson (B and C) as they begin their training in Ninjutzu, but also integrates word search puzzles, crosswords and a maze which engage the reader in the story as an assistant trainer. Once B and C, with the help of the reader, reach their black belt status, they are surprised by Bad Boys Inc., who have snuck into the Grand Master’s house and stolen his favorite sword. Through more mazes, the reader helps B and C as they set out to recover the Grand Master’s sword and make use of their newly acquired skills.
Rod P. Stoner has integrated puzzles with adventure in Brendon and Carson’s Ninja Training and Adventures. There is not only a decent story which is certain to capture the interest of young readers, but it draws them into some of the skills and disciplinary attributes of martial arts training as well. Through the use of puzzles, a young reader who might not be overly eager to read suddenly finds himself or herself deeply involved in the story and feeling as if they are actually a part of the action. It is a wonderful, innovative idea to mix the puzzles into reading and subtly lead young readers into something deeper. Simple, challenging and full of adventure, Brendon and Carson’s Ninja Training and Adventures is an excellent beginning to an interactive series with plenty of challenges ahead.
