Tony V Bunion, Jr.’s inspiring memoir, Breakin Cycles: The Power of my Testimony, offers insight on how to break destructive generational patterns through faith in Jesus Christ. Bunion grew up in Havana, Florida. His father spent many years in prison which left Bunion with no option but to learn to survive on his own. Most of those he could look up to were involved in gang life. Bunion watched his mother struggle to raise her children and through the hardship he faced when growing up, he learned how to be determined and to work for the life he wanted. He also discovered education as a path to the life he wanted for himself. Still, he became ensnared by the life of crime that he witnessed every day. But God had a better plan for his life and, through faith, Bunion was able to overcome.
Breakin Cycles is packed full of powerful lessons that will motivate young people from an underprivileged background to break free from their environment and become the people God meant them to be. Some of the lessons contained in the memoir include an encouragement to keep trying even when facing defeat, remaining hungry for progress, associating with people who bring out the best in a person and following God which results in growth. I loved that Tony V Bunion, Jr. is open about his struggles, failures, accomplishments, hard times, and shows how God’s love still shone through it all. His role as a father to his children and his reflection on the devastating loss of his daughter shows his commitment and growth. Breakin Cycles by Tony V Bunion, Jr. is a powerful memoir that is both insightful and practical.
