When I first saw Boots on the Ground: A Wrestling with Romance novella by Holly Tierney-Bedord, I thought romance and wrestling just seemed like an odd mix. Little did I know that I would get so caught up in the story that I would finish it in two hours! Lucille Boots is the owner of a wrestling company called Boots Brigade that produces a TV show called Boots Brigade: Wrestling Heroes on Saturday Nights. She had paid millions upon millions of dollars to buy out her ex-husband's half of the company after their divorce.
Now she owns her own wrestling company and is the proud mother of a college age daughter. Everything should be going along swimmingly, right? Wrong! The ratings for the show are quickly dropping, her marketing teams can’t seem to come up with any new ideas, and her wrestlers can’t wrestle. Then one day, in the midst of the chaos, Demitri, a wrestler looking for a new gig, drops in out of the blue. He seems to be heaven sent: he is handsome, he can wrestle, and he has audience appeal. But what's this? He may have already signed with someone else who happens to be starting a new wrestling company in direct competition and in her town! In the meantime, Lucille finds herself falling for someone who is everything she promised herself that she would not fall for. Now what?
This story is a fun romp through owning your own business in the world of TV glitz and falling in love in spite of yourself. The characters are fun and lively. You think to yourself, "Oh no! She can’t be serious?! You have to be kidding me!" You laugh and you are flabbergasted at all the antics the characters get up to. You wonder if this could possibly happen in real life. This is an entertaining book with enjoyable characters. Boots on the Ground comes to a successful conclusion. You are left thinking, "I can’t believe what I just read, but boy, was that fun!"
