Bodies of Water by T. Greenwood is a riveting tale of forbidden love. It is as timeless as the sea and as special as the movement of morality through the ages. Billie and Frankie are a typical suburban Massachusetts couple in the 1960s. He works and she takes care of the house and the children, longing for validation and a life of fulfillment. When Eva and her family move in across the street, Billie begins to feel initial fulfillment in the friendship that builds with the common interests between two women who dare to share their hopes and dreams. Their explorations lead to places they dare not enter. It was a different time and a different place than today's world.
It is not a stretch to say that Bodies of Water is the most powerful tale I have read for some time. The reader is forced into knowing each and every character in his or her glory and ugliness. The characters are so deep and true that their humanity literally screams to be heard. Readers who lived in the era will search their minds for justice in a time that was simply not prepared to handle the likes of Billie and Eva. Greenwood has introduced us to characters that will remain in the heart and the mind when the book is closed and put down to linger in the recesses of morality and judgment. Be prepared to think about this book as your mind begins to form judgments about others and be prepared to develop a depth of compassion previously unknown.
