Bobos Babes Adventures: A Magical Halloween by Karen M. Bobos tells the tale of three sisters—Fairy Cora, Angel Scarlett, and Princess Daphne—who are shopping for Halloween masks. The story opens with a bit of mystery right away as the girls, within a fun autumn setting, find that the store owner of the mask shop has some mysterious masks set aside for them. Lily the Ladybug, the shop owner, tells them they have to wait until Halloween to open their masks, however, and when they do, they are surprised to see marvelous masks that disguise them perfectly as a monster, a witch, and a ghost. The sisters couldn’t be happier and enjoy a fun Halloween night out trick-or-treating.
There is so much to love about Bobos Babes Adventures: A Magical Halloween. First, the story is told with an exciting and fun rhyming pattern which should amuse young readers. As an adult reader, I marveled at the fluent poetry of the words and how everything came together wonderfully to tell the full story. The book is also illustrated with beautiful and realistic pictures of the sisters and their Halloween surroundings. The costumes were so exciting with a green witch, a pink ghost, and a monster that was just scary enough for young readers. The story itself is filled with mystery, and it teaches children that if you’re patient, awesome things are waiting for you! Overall, author Karen M. Bobos tells a story that will be remembered each Halloween season and will quickly become an autumn family favorite.
