Bloodline by Anne MacReynold is a young adult fantasy novel that follows the tumultuous lives of siblings as they struggle to survive. Yvaine and Lugh crave the darkness because it provides them with safety. Only coming out to eat, the siblings fight to survive every single day. The world they live in is chaotic at best. With constant tension between the Fae and the common people, Lugh and Yvaine know they need to be very careful until they find safety. However, their quest to find a haven is rough and full of peril. One wrong move and they will be killed. If they want to survive, they will have to understand what is good and what is bad before it is too late and they pay the price with their lives. With no one to trust but each other, can Yvaine and Lugh survive long enough?
I love it when authors open their story with intense action or with a plot already thick with tension. Bloodline had both, and you can imagine how ecstatic I am. I love how Anne MacReynold started the story on a high note and kept the momentum going until the very end. In the beginning, it is hard to judge both siblings. While one may appear to be more careless and the other more vigilant, readers experience Lugh and Yvaine at their most vulnerable as well as when they are on top of the world. While some visuals might be a little too much for some readers (especially the eating parts), they are necessary for the character development and to show what Lugh and Yvaine are. The plot is adrenaline-inducing; it made my heart beat faster and had me hold my breath as the siblings fought and clawed their way to safety. I simply loved this story to the last sentence. A solid 5-star novel!
