Beyond A Gluten-Free Dream is a children's picture book penned by Frances Alvarado-Ng and illustrated by Marianne Savage. Meet Livie Bloom (aka Bloomy). She has the coolest treehouse, and her best friend Titang is the most adorable dog! Bloomy's the most delightful little girl—some even say flowers grow everywhere she goes. Whenever she needs to figure out important stuff, you'll find her at the treehouse. It's one of those days. However, nothing seems fun. Earlier, Bloomy found out she has Celiac disease. That means foods with gluten could make her sick (even her favorite pizza and cookies). She felt very sad about it until she closed her eyes. With Titang as her tour guide and transport, the pair cruised the stars to special joyous occasions happening all across the world where there's lots of food that's all naturally gluten-free yet still healthy, much tastier, and easy to find. Just what are they?
Kids fascinated by dreams, grand adventures in new places, and fast-paced action will find this tale unputdownable. It's peppered with several unexpected twists and lots of suspense. I read it aloud to my seven-year-old and his eyes grew big with excitement every time they soared to a new event and country. He found Dia de los Muertos (when families paint their faces and set up altars with favorite foods and old photos to remember their departed loved ones) so much fun! Frances Alvarado-Ng's impeccable descriptions transport you to Bloomy's exciting world with flawless clarity. Colorful illustrations capture every word in the text and help you better picture the escapade. Bloomy's extraordinary adventure is Beyond A Gluten-Free Dream; it celebrates connecting and sharing and promotes diversity with all its beauty. Parents and carers can use it as a clever way to help introduce new food varieties and start discussions about serious subjects such as different cultures, the value of family and friendship, and the importance of someone embracing their challenges. Kids aged 3 and up will love it.
