Ben the Unpopular Mosquito by CP Clark is the story of a lonely mosquito that can't seem to make any friends. One night, he dreamed that he had lots of friends and how wonderful it was. The next day he was excited and saw two butterflies and introduced himself, but they rejected him. Other animals, like cardinals and a frog, overheard his conversation about how he wanted to make friends and pretended that they would be his friend so they could eat him. He knew it was their intention and ran away. At a tree, he met two rabbits and two squirrels playing together. When he asked them the same thing, they also rejected him. Finally, the wise squirrel Binky educated Ben and all the others about mosquitoes.
Ben the Unpopular Mosquito by CP Clark is a deeply thoughtful, heartwarming, insightful, and meaningful storybook for children. No one wanted to be friends with Ben because of their incorrect view that all mosquitoes bite. This story teaches children the value of learning more about others before deciding not to be their friend and instead to base their decisions on facts, not personal biases. They will also learn to show empathy. This story teaches children a beautiful lesson about life, love, and friendship as they go on their journey to make friends and how to go about it the right way. These are all valuable life examples that will serve them well. The illustrations are colorful, and the moral of the story is clear. I enjoyed reading this unusual story about a mosquito.
