Wow...just, Wow! How's that for a review? That's exactly how I felt after I finished reading Before Your Next Excuse: A True Story of Addiction, Loss, Hope and the Power of Choice by debut author Ned Barrett. In a wonderful, funny, emotional and at times raw retelling of his personal life story, the author provides advice and guidance to others who might also be struggling with issues of addiction and loss. A truly touching and insightful recounting of real issues and struggles in author Ned Barrett's life, this book will keep readers engrossed from the start until the very end, and will keep them thinking about his words until long after the final page is finished.
I truly enjoyed Before Your Next Excuse. Author Ned Barrett has written a book that provides empathy but not excuses to those who are making choices that are as damaging to themselves as they are to others. Because the book is written from personal experience, it doesn't come across as preachy; in fact, it is the author's very experiences that seem to give this book a wonderful sense of credibility. This book is concisely written, not a word is superfluous, and riveting in its story. Any reader who has struggled with addiction, or who is struggling now, should definitely read this book. Those who have had a loved one struggle with addiction should also pick up this book. I am so pleased to highly recommend this book, and I hope that author Ned Barrett is hard at work on a second book as we speak. I am quite certain that anything provided by this very promising new author would absolutely be worth the read!
