Brett Fleishman has done it again with Bedtime Story: Poems for Advanced Readers Volume 2 (Grades 5-7) (Funny-Bone-Tickling Children's Poetry). In this book, the collection of over twenty poems along with the fun illustrations by Sam White offers a special treat. Your child will experience the pleasure of reading several poems that are chock full of puns and idioms. What are puns and idioms? It's a play on words. Here is an example by the famous writer and humorist, Mark Twain: “Denial is not a river in Egypt.” Your child will be taken on a wild ride of imagination as they read each poem and try to unscramble the puns and idioms that the book contains. Have your child read the poems $10 Dollar Decision, Scary Theory, Honeymoon Planners and Frustrated Word Game and get ready to laugh.
Brett’s adage of “Always dream big. It’s OK if you do. If you don’t there’s no way that your dream will come true” that started each of the volumes that I've read so far is awesome. It helps to set the stage for your child as they begin the experience of reading his books. I enjoyed this book as much as I did Toilet Trouble: Poems for Beginner Readers Volume 1. For an advanced reader there is so much to experience but the added bonus of the Zany Mind Blenders creates not only a special touch but a wonderful challenge for your child and I loved this. Brett thought about everything for your child from their cognitive abilities and sense of humor to their imaginations. Add Bedtime Story: Poems for Advanced Readers Volume 2 to your child's library.
