Years ago, 17-year-old Brooklyn had a huge crush on hunky Nate and promptly lost her heart and virginity to him. What could have been the start of a wonderful teen romance quickly turns to horror when Brooklyn learns Nate has disappeared…completely. Fast forward a few years and Brook is running a bakery and engaged to be married, when her world is turned upside down by the reappearance of Nate, who looks even better than he did as a teenage heartthrob. In Be My Reason, Brooklyn and Nate must contend with their lingering feelings and decide if it is best to ignore them or succumb to them. Samantha Christy has created a touching story that is beautifully written, with big fat doses of romance and sex!
Be My Reason has plenty of angst and dark secrets, but that in no way detracts from the heart of this story, which of course is Brooklyn and Nate. When Nate reappears, Brooklyn wants nothing to do with him; he hurt her once and she is not going to give him a chance to do it again. He’s a total playboy now, guaranteeing her a broken heart, plus there is her fiancé Michael, who she just doesn’t love. If I had to complain, I would say I wished Samantha Christy just showed us how mistrustful Nate was rather than always saying it. He has every right to have trust issues, but it would've been nice to see that more than his jealousy. I’m all in favor of forgiveness, but some things just can’t be worked out. As delusional as I was to convince myself Brooklyn wouldn’t forgive him, I can’t say I would take it back because it shows just how deeply I was engrossed in this story.
